What does it mean to be a ‘faith-based’ fitness company?
Mission Statement
Holistik Collective is a wellness-driven company designed specifically for women who are ready to reignite their passion for fitness while discovering a deeper connection to their values.
We’re not here for aesthetics, for the sole purpose of performance, and yes, we know we are swimming upstream with these concepts. We believe in living lives that hinge on the concept of priorities derived from Four Pillars:
Faith
Family
Fitness
Finances
The Four Pillar Method is used in every day decision making, from what we say to a disgruntled cashier (who probably needs a soft smile rather than a snarky reply), to how we use our paycheck (first to tithe, second to pay for bills, and lastly to look for opportunities to bless others).
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers [and sisters], by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”
Writing as one who has tasted the addicting elixir of competition, it can be so incredibly easy to steep oneself in the world of self-improvement for the sake of performance. The desire seems innocuous at first, and for some, it remains that way, but for others, it grows into self-obsession. Orienting your lifestyle to account for every variable - sleep, meal timing, nutrient intake, recovery and mobility time, training sessions, etc. are just the tip of the iceberg for elite athletes hoping to make their mark in their respective fitness realm.
Before we continue (and you bounce because your hackles have begun to rise), we’re not saying athletic pursuits are terrible and everyone should just give up. There is a time, a place and phases of life that accommodate these goals!
What we’ve noticed, as followers of Jesus, is that it is common to lose our focus from eyes upward, to eyes inward, and when we look inside, we see all the flaws, cracks, and needs for improvement. This focal point of looking constantly at ourselves is similar to holding a magnified mirror to our faces (anyone else have that terrifying experience as you enter your thirties?? We 0/10 recommend, LOL). In that mirror, you notice every wrinkle, enlarged pore, dark circle under the eyes, and horror of horrors - blemish.
FAITH
Having our mindset trained to look at ourselves as Christ sees us removes the incessant need to strive for more. Keeping faith the foundation allows us to be grateful for who God made us to be, and that gives us the freedom to love others where they are, rather than nagging them along to become who we think they need to be.
Faith is the top priority, because when our vertical relationship is in good standing, our horizontal relationships (should) strengthen and grow deeper with each passing year.
FAMILY
This is a tough concept, and it is very dependent on each individual. Some of us have families that are close-knit, who love each other relatively well, and have a common goal of building other other up. Others have a very different perspective on family due to hurtful experiences, past and present, and who are working hard not to become a continuation of that family model.
Wherever you find yourself - married, single, with or without children, identifying the place your family holds in your life is important to your overall wellbeing. If there’s constant conflict, ask yourself how you can become a peacemaker (note: making peace differs from keeping peace). If you feel misunderstood, become a better communicator, and then accept that nobody understands you better than the God who created you, and loves you dearly.
Family is the second priority, because whether we get along with one another or not, we are part of a family line and have a responsibility to one another (“If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” - Romans 12:8)
FITNESS
While we occasionally work with higher-level athletes, our main focus is on helping former athletes and those who simply wish to get in shape and make that lifestyle sustainable long-term. There are thousands of coaches who train elite athletes and just as many who push 4-week programming with claims about crazy weight loss that is ultimately damaging and unsustainable. Our desire is to set ourselves apart by helping people obtain their fitness goals without it taking over their life and becoming their entire identity.
Fitness is third in line on the priority list, because if your faith is 6-feet under and your family is falling apart, you need to put your focus on those two aspects until they become stable. Far too often we’ve watched marriages crumble, kids become neglected, siblings hung out to dry, and church communities forsaken all in the name of fitness. If fitness is at the top of your priorities, we will not be a good fit for you.
FINANCES
This one makes new clients scratch their heads. Finances…what does that have to do with fitness? And why is it last on the list? Financial wellbeing has always been at the forefront of our minds, not only due to the increasing inflation that seeps into every facet of our lives, but also because you pay for what you prioritize. Lets break it down a bit.
MAKEUP - On average, women spend between $90-$200/mo on makeup alone
FOOD - Women on average spend $400/mo on groceries and $200/mo eating out
CLOTHING - The monthly average ranges, but settles on about $200/mo
ONLINE PURCHASES - The average monthly purchases is now up to $700/mo
“When we determined our price range for our services, we reviewed the national spending averages, combined them with our expertise, and decided to create a 3-tier approach that made fitness more affordable.”
We’re not afraid of transparency, and below are our baseline prices currently. They are subject to change, but for now, here is where we stand.
Individual Coaching - $200-$300 (monthly)
Group Fitness - $50 (per training block)
Programs for Purchase - $25-$100 (one-time)
Website Resources - Free
When considering your own purchases and expenses - ask yourself the following questions:
Q1: Where do I spend the majority of my money?
Q2: Are my finances in shambles, or am I living appropriately below my means?
Q3: Do I need to pick up additional hours if I wish to maintain my lifestyle, or do I need to change my lifestyle so I don’t have to overwork myself?
Now look at our prices again, and compare them to your current expenditure.
RECAP:
If your spiritual wellbeing is growing in a healthy community where you’re also able to give back as a means of worship, your faith pillar is standing tall.
If your family communicates, works through conflict with respect for one another, and seeks to build one another up (and maintains their reputations in the presence of others), your family pillar is intact.
If you’ve consistently found time to workout and it’s been sustainable through the best and worst circumstances of life, your fitness pillar is where it needs to be.
If your mindset is on sustaining, saving, and sending (money or items to those in need - Proverbs 19:17), then your finance pillar is a firm foundation.
