10 Ways to Beat the Blues in February

February is, for some, the most “blah” month in the calendar year. It’s typically cold, dark, and winter seems to drag on unendingly. Here at Holistik Collective, we love wintertime, so to help anyone who struggles throughout this month, we’ve compiled our favorite activities in one, big list!

  1. Make A Snowman: If there’s snow, go outside and determine to enjoy it! If not, consider this indoor option.

  2. Have a Mid-Winter Party: Make it a dinner party with soup and fresh bread, OR, a popcorn and movie night, OR, get together to make hot cocoa mixes for friends, OR, host a sleepover for your grandkids.

  3. Explore Local Attractions: If you live near museums or malls, consider making an afternoon trip to break up the monotony!

  4. Become a Bookworm: Ask friends about their favorite books, consider swapping and borrowing, then call to talk about what you found interesting about each title.

  5. Go on a Cleaning Spree: Nothing feels better than dealing with clutter! Since wintertime can keep us cooped up and confined, consider using that time to make your indoor space as enjoyable as possible by cleaning out closets and rooms.

  6. Plan Your Garden: Winter is the perfect time to begin planning your gardening adventures for Spring! Regardless of your location and space availability, you can have a garden - so why not begin dreaming today?

  7. Make New Traditions: When the days grow dark, it’s tempting to adopt a glum attitude, but that might mean it’s time for routines that bring joy. Consider picking up bowling with friends on Fridays, or Taco Tuesdays with your family, being intentional about random acts of kindness for Thoughtful Thursday, or slowing down and putting aside your phone/TV/laptop for Simple Saturdays.

  8. Take a Hike: If you enjoy the brisk weather and you’re willing to bundle up, choose a location that’s free from ice and go on a rejuvenating hike!

  9. Get Back on the Bandwagon: By this point, most New Years’ resolutioners have fallen off their goals, be it fitness or lifestyle. It’s never too late to start again, and it’s always a good time to try once more. So pick yourself up, renew your resolve, and put your best foot forward!

  10. Make a Gratitude List: If you’re feeling down, sometimes you simply need to remind yourself of all the many reasons to be thankful. Even when times are tough, money is tight, friends are few and families are complicated- God is still good. You have breath in your lungs, life in your veins, a plan and a purpose, so continue on with that list until your heart can’t contain the praise to feel better quickly!
